Projections of demand indicate that
additional landside facilities will be required to serve
based aircraft. By the end of the planning period, an
additiona15,700 square feet of T-hangaz space should be
provided and conventional hangar space should be
increased by 33,000 square feet. Additional de-down
spaces should also be provided. An additional 1,800
square feet of terminal/administration space will also be
needed by the end of the planning period.
The Airlake Comprehensive Development Plan,
approved by the Council in 1989, recommends extending
Runway 11/29 from its existing length of 4,100 feet to
5,000 feet; widening of Runway 11/29 to 100 feet is also recommended. The Airlake Comprehensive
Development Plan also recommends a 3,500-foot
crosswind runway (Runway 4/22) which will help to
provide Airlake with increased wind coverage. The
proposed crosswind should be equipped with REILs and
medium intensity runway lighting (IVIIRL). An airport
beacon should also be installed.
-21-
METROPOLITAN COUNCIL
