Under certain operating circumstances, a general aviation airport in
Search Area "A" could attract between 100 to 200 based aircraft by the
end of the planning period. 1n: evaluating general aviation airport
development feasibility in Seazch Area "A," adequate flexibility should be
maintained for ultimate expansion to intermediate (greater than 5,000-foot
runway length) airport classification. A crosswind runway and expanded
land envelope should be considered for the ultimate facility.
If continuous planning efforts show that development of a new
general aviation airport is warranted in Seazch Area "A," a 5,000-foot long
runway with precision instrument approach capability and appropriate
lighting should be planned. Various landside facilities would be required
to support based aircraft.
-23-
METROPOLITAN COUNCIL
