The NPIAS presents airport development data for public -use airports in the <br />United States and identifies federal funding eligibility levels for the airports. <br />Each of the airport classification systems has a unique role in the reliever <br />study. The Metropolitan Council classifications relate to the policies established for <br />the region, while the federal system is utilized for FAA technical standards. <br />Finally, the NPIAS classifications are used in the implementation phase of this <br />study, particularly as funding issues arise. <br />5. AIRPORT FACILrI'lbS AND ACTIVITY <br />This section provides inventory data for MSP and existing reliever system <br />airports. Data provided in this section includes: <br />• Landside Facilities <br />• Airside Facilities <br />▪ NAVAIDS <br />• Airport Activity Statistics <br />(1) Landside Facilities <br />In order to assess the adequacy of the study airports to meet current and <br />future demand, a list of major landside facilities was compiled as part of the <br />inventory effort. Inventoried landside facilities include aircraft storage <br />facilities, terminal area, and parking (See Table I-3). <br />(2) Airside Facilities <br />Airside facilities include runways, taxiways, and ramp area. It is <br />important to document these facilities to determine the adequacy of individual <br />reliever airports, as well as the reliever system, in meeting current and future <br />demand.
