PRO~CTIONS OF AVIATION DEMAND
Projections of general aviation demand were developed for Minneapolis/St. Paul
International Airport (the Airport) and its seven designated reliever airports to aid in
determining the aviation needs of the reliever system through 2008.'/ The projection
analyses aze discussed in the following sections:
Metropolitan Area Registered Aircraft Projections
Based Aircraft Projections
- Based Aircraft
- Based Aircraft Fleet Mix
. Aircraft Activity Projections
- Annual Operations (Local and Itinerant)
- Operational Fleet Mix
- Military Operations
Projection Comparisons
Projection Summary
The base year for the projections is 1988. Estimates of 1989 data, where
appropriate, were used to ensure the consistency of the projections.
1. METROPOLITAN AREA REGISTERED AIRCRAFT PROJECTIONS
A two-step process was used to prepaze the projections of metropolitan area
registered aircraft.'/ The Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area includes Anoka, Carver,
Dakota, Hennipin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington Counties. First, four independent
'/ Airlake, Anoka-Blaine County, Crystal, Flying Cloud, Downtown St. Paul (Holman
Field), Lake Ehno, and South St. Paul comprise the designated reliever system for the
greater Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan azea.
'/ The number of registered aircraft reflects the number of aircraft owned and
registered within an azea. The number of based aircraft reflects aircraft actually stored at
an area airport, regardless of the owner's place of residence.
II-1
