MPCA is <br />also responsible for reviewing and approving the <br />permit applications for sanitary landfill sites. <br />SW-6 prohibits MPCA from approving permit appli- <br />cations for landfills located in the following <br />areas: <br />1,000 feet from the normal high water mark of a <br />lake, pond or flowage; <br />300 feet from a stream; <br />A regional flood plain (100-year flood); <br />- Wetlands <br />*- 1,000 feet of the nearest edge of the right-of- <br />way of any state, federal or interstate <br />highway; <br />*- 1,000 feet from the boundary of a public park; <br />*- 1,000 feet from an occupied dwelling; and <br />- location considered hazardous because of the <br />proximity of airports. (underlining added) <br />In this site selection program, land in the pre- <br />ceding areas is assumed to be intrinsically <br />unsuitable for a landfill.
