Space requirements for aircraft parking space, arrival -
departure facilities, and auto parking are determined by
peaking conditions. While historic data is not available at
Gateway, it is assumed that activity characteristics are
similar to other airports in the state. Table 6 -1 outlines
forecast peaking conditions on which facility requirements
are based.
TABLE 6 -1
GATEWAY NORTH INDUSTRIAL
FORECAST PEAK ACTIVITY
■ 1984 1990 1995 2005
Annual Itinerant Operations 1,300 5,300 9,900 16,600
Peak Month Itinerant Operations (14 %) 182 742 1,386 2,324
Annual Itinerant Passengers 3,250 13,250 24,750 41,500
Peak Month Itinerant Passengers 400 1,850 3,470 5,800
Average Day /Peak Month Operations 15 63 115 193
Busy Day /Peak Month Operations 18 68 128 213
Average Day /Peak Month Passengers 6 25 46 77
' Busy Day /Peak Month Passengers 7 27 51 85
Peak Hour /Busy Day /Peak Month Operations 1 3 5 9
' Peak Hour /Busy Day /Peak Month Passengers 3 8 13 23
6.8.1 Apron /Tie Down Area
Ground space must be allocated for outside storage
of aircraft which includes space for based air-
craft not stored in hangars and transient aircraft
being serviced or stored short term. Space
allowances are 300 square yards per based aircraft
and 360 square yards for transient aircraft.
' a). Long -term tie down area
It is assumed that all based aircraft will desire
hangars. Since multi -unit hangars provide the
most efficient use of airport space there will be
times, however, when funds are unavailable to
' construct hangars to meet demand or a temporary
lack of demand to justify hangar development.
Also, a certain percentage of aircraft owners will
choose not to pay the higher rates for new hangar
' storage.
It is reasonable that 20% of based aircraft will
' require long -term tie down space. Tie down
requirements thus are forecast as follows:
' 6 -5
