F-1.
Chuck Smith - 7145 151st - Inquired as to the direction of the runway.
F ) Mr. Otto replied that preferably, the runway is placed for a 958 wind
coverage, the runway at Gateway would be in a northwest /southeast direction.
' Chuck Smith stated that planes land into the wind and a cross wind runway
is going to be required.
' Mr. Otto then described what Stage II airports accomodate: A Stage II
airport serves 958 of all aircraft under 12,000 pounds -- predominantly
single engine and light twin engine aircraft. The minimum requirements for
' Stage II are:
1. Land acquisition - 60 -70 acres.
t 2. Non Precision instrument approaches.
' 3. 500' x 2000' x 1100' clear zones.
4. 60' x 3300' paved runway.
' S. Land use safety zoning and height limitation zoning.
6. Taxiway system.
' 7. Building area space.
a.
b .
C.
d.
' e.
Departure /arrival
Public apron for 10 aircraft
20 T hangars
40 car parking lot
Utilities
Mr. Otto then presented visual plan boards showing alternatives for airport
' layout and the affects each of those alternatives would have on surrounding
properties.
Brenda Bauerkemper - 6855 162nd Lane - Inquired as to what happens if the owners of
those residences affected by the clear zones happen to like their homes.
' Citizen in the audience suggested rotating the runway in a way that it would
not affect so many surrounding properties.
Mr. Otto stated that the more you rotate the runway layout, the less wind
' coverage you have and the result is a greater need for a cross wind runway.
One of the layout alternatives would require a fair amount of fill in order
to clear County Road 116 and the railroad tracks. Another layout would
' require less fill but would involve shifting the runway'to the north; the
cost of excavation would be considerably less but the cost of land acquisition
and shifting of County Road 116 has not been looked at. Another concept that
' has to be considered is whether or not we should orient the runway more to the
east /west so we get away from residential land acquisition and provide a cross
wind runway.
' Brenda Bauerkemper - Inquired if having a cross wind runway would affect the
type of aircraft allowed at Gateway North.
' AP /May 16, 1984
Public Meeting
