and Sons, Inc. and Faye Construction Company. These oanpanies have acquired
and assembled property in the vicinity of the old Deziel's Cafe. They have
assembled that acreage for future development of a commercial nature and they
are concerned about this proposed airport. Stage I of development would
include acquiring from my clients 9.2 acres of sane of the most desirable
property in Ramsey because it abuts the highway. Stage II would include
acquiring a considerable amount of additional acreage belong to Schwartzman.
My clients did not buy this land to sell to Ramsey for an airport and they are
definitely concerned about their investment. In sitting here and listening to
Mr. Larsen, I wonder how I would answer his questions. There is already a
Metro Airports axrvnission in the metro area; this commission and Metro Council
are well mare of the fact that there is a need for additional small airport
facilities in the area. The Metro Airports mission has professionals that
know what is necessary to establish an airport; let then select an airport site
in this northern area; let than fund it and spread the cost over the entire
metro area. If I lived in Ramsey, I would favor the method I have just
suggested. It would be a good idea for the City of Ramsey to work with the
Metro Airports Commission to find a suitable airport site and if I were a
citizen I would be agreeable to ny money being spent in that way. I understand
from prior meetings that this Commission has been instructed not to look at any
other sites in Ramsey. My guess is that if the Metro Airports Coxmissioner
were to cane out and look around Ramsey, they would not select the site the
existing site for an airport. Fourteen families would be dispositioned in
Stage I of development; the Gateway site is in a relatively congested area and
I don't consider it a 'cornfield' area at all. This is an area where land
costs will amount to a lot of money; land acquisition would not cost so much in
the northwest corner of the City. There really isn't any roam for expansion at
the Gateway site; the Gateway facility would be a minimum facility so shall
that it would not have FAA's complete blessing. I would select a site suitable
for expansion with less congestion and lager land costs. My clients urge this
Commission to vote this airport project down and to reoanmend that City Council
not proceed with it.
Chairman Ippel - The Metro Council, Metro Airports Oannission, State Department
of Transportation Aeronautical Division and FAA have all been very much a part
of what has been happening in Ranseys airport master plan study. The State is
picking up 80% of the cost of this study. If FAA does not give this airport
it's blessing, there will be no airport. I think Ramsey can afford the airport
with State and Federal participation; without their participation, it would not
be feasible. Would you rather have this airport issue under the control of
Ramsey and it's citizens or would you rather have it handled like past issues,
i.e., hazardous waste storage, incinerators, etc. and have Metro Council ran it
down our throats.
Brenda Laska - 7531 152nd Lane NW - I live across the street from the airport
and our bane almost got hit. Who would buy a have close to an airport? If we
wanted to live by an airport we would have moved to Bloomington or Crystal. If
Ramsey has so much money, why don't we spend it on our parks - our parks are a
joke. We drive a lot of miles each day to be able to live in Ramsey and bring
our children up in a rural atmosphere
Ramona O'Donnell - 7300 150th Lane NW - I live in the proposed safety zone; the
house 150' away from me would be acquired and their problem would be solved but
August 21, 1985
