I would not be bought out and I am only 150' further away than ny neighbor. I
am also concerned about aircraft crashing into ny home; the most likely point
of impact would be ny daughter's bedroom. I found out earlier today at City
Hall that if sewer and water canes, those residents in the safety zone can not
subdivide their one acre lots to offset the oast of sewer and water; how will
we be compensated?
Chairman Ippel - The Airport Commission has looked at the issue of subdivision
in the safety zone. There are ways to provide compensation for those residents
in the safety zone in the event sewer and water comes to that area. The City
is looking at an airport plan; there are hurdles to cross before it would
became a project; this forum is to get those concerns out in the open. People
from Crystal have approached this Commission to say that their properties have
appreciated. People have said that because of airport and industrial
development, their hone values increased.
Ramona O'Donnell - Residents in the approach area are not going to benefit. I
heard planes are supposed to fly at 400'; pilots are not abiding by that when
you can look up and see the people in the plane; what will it be like when the
air traffic doubles?
Commissioner Sieber - Appreciate the comments being made and keep in mind that
a decision will not be based on only the economic considerations. My vote will
reflect what I think the people in Ramsey want. Note that there is quite a bit
of contrast between public opinions expressed at the May 29 Airport Commission
meeting and this meeting.
Ramona O'Donnell - I wasn't notified of the May 29 meeting.
Commissioner Sieber - City money was spent to advertise those meetings; what
else can this Commission do?
Ramona O'Donnell - We should have been notified by a personal letter.
Commissioner Sieber - Tone of the public at the last public meeting was pro or
non -committal airport; tone of this meeting is anti airport. I will base ny
decision on what is best for the City and not necetRarily from an economic
aspect.
Ramona O'Donnell - What if the airport does not attract business to Ramsey, who
will pay the expenses?
Commissioner Sieber - You and I. Everything that happens falls back on the
City's residents and owners. As a member of a charter city, if the project is
approved, it means the people did not oppose it.
Allen Shallbetter - 17060 Bison Street NW - I am pro airport. I don't live by
the airport but I do live by the Gun Club and I would rather live by the
airport. I spent the first 10 years of ny life across the street from the
Crystal VFW; my father's hone was the first one to be built there and he had no
trouble selling his home. When Crystal's airport developed, that area was all
farmland; development came after the airport. I own and base an airplane at
Gateway. I have a business airplane that is based at Crystal. That business
August 21, 1985
