Chairman Ippel - You can't say that if you are for development you are against
people because development benefits people. I represent the City of Ramsey.
Council appointed this Commission to put in time and effort to look at this
airport issue and make evaluations. Personally, my feeling is that I think I
represent the City of Ramsey; that City is made up of a lot of individual
people and interests. There are people who don't care that their Children are
ruching up and down the streets with 3-wheelers and dirt bikes; there are other
people who take offense to that; others are for and against development; there
are people who want a balanced community; and people that want a rural
community. My decision will be based upon what I feel is going to be best for
for the most number of people in Ramsey in a long run.
Mr. Mox - Appreciate this Commission's position.
Chairman 'Lapel - If anyone on this Commission feels the possibility that the
airport will fail, I hope they against it; if they feel there is the
possibility that it will be a long term benefit to the City, I hope they vote
for it; the same goes for City Council.
Commissioner Sieber - My decision to accept appointment to this Commission was
based on my interest in the community and experience with past airport issues.
The decision to be made in this case is not easy and weights heavily on our
consciences,
Resident - What is the dirt moving activity behind Tan Rhumb all about?
Commissioner Siebert - Activity behind Tam Rhumb is not related to airport
development; understand it is just removing gravel from a gravel pit.
Resident - It doesn't make any difference what the people want - the
construction of this City Hall building was voted down by the public but it was
built anyway.
Commissioner Sieber - What the people want does make a difference now that we
have a charter; there was not a charter in existence when the new City Hall was
being considered. Several years ago, I screamed against an airport being
developed on General Mills property and I brought those feelings with me to
this Commission. Slowly my attitude is changing to where I see there is an
economic benefit to the community. As a member of this Commission I have to
represent the citizens when it comes time to vote; write or call me, this
Commission or City Council within the next 10 days and let us know your
feelings on the issue. I will vote the way I think the majority of the people
want me to. Approximately 1% of the City's population is represented at this
public hearing; I would like to hear from the other 99%.
Resident - Where does Commissioner Siebert work and live?
Commissioner Siebert - Am a vice president of a development company and live at
7501 151st Lane. Too often people come to these meetings misinformed; these
types of meetings give commissions a Chance to let the people know what is
really happening. We feel that it is vital for Ramsey citizens to know the
facts so that if it goes to a referendum, they will know what they are voting
on.
August 21, 1985
