Hakanson, P.E.
James M. Winter, R.L.S.
Lawrence G. Koshak, P.E.
Peter R. Raatikka, P.E.
We are pleased to transmit the final Master Plan Study for Gate-
way North Industrial Airport.
The Master Plan Study was conducted to determine the technical
considerations for the public acquisition of the privately owned
airfield, and the improvements necessary to comply with State and
Federal airport standards. Additionally, the study addresses the
level of aviation activity demand and provides a development plan
for the airport to meet forecast demand over a twenty year
planning period.
A portion of the study assessed the aviation needs and charac-
teristics of area businesses and pilots. A review of historical
activity and survey responses indicates that there is an active
and continuing demand for aviation services for both the
business community and individuals. It was evident from the
surveys that airport improvements are a major concern to both
existing and potential facility users. One of the factors men-
tioned as detracting from the Airport's growth is the uncertainty
over its future which discourages users from making long term
investments in capital improvements.
Foremost among the necessary improvements required are the acqui-
sition of approximately 230 acres of land to provide for airport
facility development and non -precision instrument approach clear
zones, and construction of a 3300' lighted and paved Runway 16-
34. Redevelopment and expansion of the building area is
recommended over the 20 year period of meet forecast growth
requirements.
civil • municipal • planning • soils • land surveying • landscape architecture
