I
trust that once you have reviewed these comments and those of others you will
resubmit the plan for formal comment of the Metropolitan Council.
Our comments, by section, for your consideration are:
Section 3:
The Benson Airport is one of several existing airports in the metropolitan
aviation system. This airport, however; rs not part of the Metropolitan
Aviation Systems Plan. The Benson Airport does not meet minimum Mn/DOT
facility requireme~ The MASP does not acknowledge continued existence of
Benson.
Regarding Figure 3-1, Search Area A was included in the Region"s 1990 System
Plan and it did not exist in 1977. Similarly, Airlake Airport was privately
_ owned in 1977. In the 1990 System Plan Search Area B included the Airlake
Airport. The 1984/85 systems plan will determine if Search Area B is to be
retained.
Section 5:
If possible we would like to reserve comment on the forecast section for a few
._ weeks. Our consultant is now preparing the general aviation projections for
the Region. We do expect to have preliminary data in early March.
Regarding the forecasts and the impact of such forecasts, we also believe that
` this system plan"s analysis of alternatives, especially those involving Crystal
Airport may seriously affect any projection for Gateway Airport. This is one
.area that requires close monitoring.
i Section 6:
The "Minor" airport classification does not stipulate that a Minor airport only
serve aircraft less than 12,500 pounds. As is the case with the FAA
._ categories, the 12,500 tbs. is indicative of "typical" aircraft types.
An Equal Opportunity Employer
