Assistant City Engineer Jankowski reviewed the staff report
Chairperson Elvig stated he agreed there should be a designated overnight parking area in the
ramp and suggested the person apply for a permit and pay for the parking.
Police Chief Way stated the City could start off with it one way and amend the policy as needed.
He noted the Police Department has had a fair amount of calls from people already. He stated
there was also the possibility of the townhomes/apartrnents needed additional overnight parking
for guests, etc.
Chairperson Elvig recommended there be signage put up in the ramp directing where to park and
where to obtain a permit.
Councilmember McGlone suggested having colored paper for the permit so it was easily seen in
the ramp.
The Commission discussed 48 hours was a reasonable time for not having a permit.
It was the Committee's consensus to not prepare a formal policy at this time, but to let the Police
Department determine where the best spot was for the parking and monitor the requests, that 48
hours was a reasonable time for not having a permit, to put an article in the newsletter, and to
remove the overnight parking sign (if there was one) and replace it with a new sign.
COMMITTEE INPUT
None.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Councilmember Dehen, seconded by Councilmember McGlone to adjourn the Public
Works Meeting.
Motion carried.
The regular meeting of the Public Works Committee adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Brian Olson
Public Works Director/Principal City Engineer
Drafted by Kathy Altman
Timesaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc.
Public Works Committee /April 20, 2010
