Case #3: Review City Policy Regarding Neighborhood Speeding and Posting of
Children at Play Signs
Background:
One of more frequent requests that staff receives is for the posting of a Children at Play sign in a
neighborhood where speeding has been identified as a problem. Staff has two suggestions to
better address speed concerns within a neighborhood. Setting out speed trailers serves to signal
motorists that there is a neighborhood speed concern. The other option is for a neighborhood
with speed concerns to assist the police department with the few individual drivers whose speed
greatly exceeds the limit.
Motion to recommend that the City Council make no change in existing policy for not posting
Children at play signs.
Action:
Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.
Case #4: Discuss Use of Plastic Pipe for Water Service Lines
Background:
A local builder has requested on numerous occasions that staff allow the use of polyethylene
(PE) pipe for water services to residential homes in the City.
The Committee discussed the pros and cons of the plastic pipes.
Motion to recommend that the City Council to continue with the existing City policy for copper
service pipes only on the outside of structures and to direct staff to keep looking at new systems
if there is a solution to locating and thawing them.
Action:
Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.
COMMITTEE INPUT
There was none
Reviewed by: f~
City Administrator: `-~
Public Works Director/Principal City Engineer
City Engineer
Street Supervisor
CC: 06/08/10
