Environmental Coordinator Anderson asked if the Board would be okay with that, since they
would be somewhat isolated from all the other activity. He also asked if they would be okay
with sharing the space with the Pazk and Recreation Commission so that both advisory groups
could utilize the additional space and screen if they wanted to.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that the building does have some limitations with
regard to these types of events. It would be great to have activities like build your own bird
house or something similar to get some hands on involvement with kids and parents but there's
just not anywhere currently where that could occur in the building. It's possible that by next year
maybe something like that could be offered in the park that is now under construction a couple
blocks away.
Boazd Member Enstrom suggested some sort of demonstration exhibit like wood carving or
something. This could be done in the azea just underneath the stairs where the rain barrel and
compost bin were displayed this year.
Chairperson Max inquired about whether the Anoka County License Center would be open on
Saturdays and if so, how that may impact the expo.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he did not think it would be open on Saturdays
but was not certain and would look into that because that could create some difficulties.
Case #2: Arbor Day Planting Event.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that the plantings will occur rain or shine, except For
severer weather.
Board Member Enstrom asked if any soil would be needed or if there was any interest in using
root gel on the seedlings.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he would be discussing this event more with
Parks Supervisor Riverblood and would follow up with Boazd Member Enstrom after that.
Chairperson Max suggested that Board have a cookout after the planting event.
BOARD/STAFF INPUT
Environmental Coordinator Anderson reminded the Boazd about the rain barrel and compost bin
sale event on May 15 at the old Target site (11000 Crooked Lake Blvd) in Coon Rapids and the
Spring Recycling Day event on Saturday, May 8 at the Public Works facility.
Environmental Coordinator Anderson also informed the Board about an upcoming workshop
being offered on preparing Emerald Ash Borer Community Preparedness Plans. The workshop
was free but had limited spaces. He stated that since this is on the work plan, he thought one or
more Board Members may have an interest in attending.
Environmental Policy Board /May 3, 2010
