Case #3: AUTHORIZE DATE AND LOCATION OF 2010 BUSINESS APPRECIATION
DAY
Management Intern Hendricks announced that planning for the 2010 Business Appreciation Day
will soon be underway. Last year's event was successful, and staff recommends using the Links at
Northfork and Wells Catering again this year. Staff is proposing that August 17, 2010 be selected
as the day of the event, and finally, is requesting $4000 in EDA funds for the event.
Motion by Member Steffen, seconded by Member Look, to select The Links at Northfork as the
location for the Business Appreciation event, to select August 17, 2010 as the Business
Appreciation Day date, to select Wells Catering as the caterer for the Business Appreciation Day,
and to authorize $4,000 for funding for the 2010 Business Appreciation Day event.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: Members Riley, Steffen, Skaff, Williams, LeTourneau, Look, and
Elvig. Voting No: None. Absent: None.
Case #4: DISCUSS FALL EDA BUSINESS NETWORHING MEETING
Deputy City Administrator/Community Development Director Nelson presented the case to discuss
the fall EDA Business Networking Meeting. In the past, the annual Business Networking Meetings
have featured a keynote speaker, breakfast, updates on city news, and an opportunity for local
businesses to network with one another.
One suggestion for this year's meeting is to add a "How to Start a Business" seminar. Economic
Development Consultant Mulrooney stated that there are many organizations in the city that would
be willing to speak at the meeting.
The question was raised whether this would be advertised as a two-part meeting in case some
people are interested in only attending one portion of the meeting and not both. It was suggested
that the normal program run from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and the second component of the meeting
run from 10:00 a.m. until noon. This would allow a person the flexibility to attend one or both parts
of the meeting. Suggestions for keynote speakers will follow at a later time.
Case #5: STAFF UPDATE
Deputy City Administrator/Community Development Director Nelson stated that since the
resignation of the Economic Development Coordinator one month ago, she has been filling in the
position on an interim basis. A case is being prepared for the next City Council meeting to request
authorization to recruit for the open position. A title of Economic Development and Marketing
Manager is being considered, and the hope is to find someone with private sector influence with a
marketing background. The shift in title would also result in an increase in salary for this position.
Economic Development Authority / Apri18, 2010
Page 3 of 5
