Member Elvig emphasized the sense of urgency to develop the city, commerce, industry, and <br />opportunity for Town Center, and cautioned against taking too long to fill the open position. <br />Deputy City Administrator/Community Development Director Nelson explained that with Council <br />approval on Tuesday night, it would be possible to have an ad out by Friday, April 16th. She would <br />like to keep the recruitment open for one month, anticipates interviews in June and potentially <br />having the position filled by mid-July. <br />Member LeTourneau reiterated that the message from the EDA is that this position is a valuable <br />one, and it is critical that it be filled. <br />Member Look commented by saying that although this is not necessarily a good time to be <br />increasing salaries, it should be viewed as an investment and needs to be considered. <br />Discussion regarding the possibility of making this a base salary plus incentive-paid position <br />ensued. City Administrator Ulrich stated that there are statutory limits on how a public employee <br />maybe compensated. <br />The message conveyed by the EDA is that they support this position. They would like the Chair <br />and/or Vice-Chair to have the opportunity to review the applications. <br />Motion by Member LeTourneau, seconded by Member Skaff, in favor of hiring for the Economic <br />Development and Marketing Manager position. <br />Motion carried.
