a
CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Topic Report: Update on Wilson House
By: Amber G. Miller, Planning Manager
Background:
)n January the City Council approved moving forward with allowing the Boy Scouts to working with Camp
Gronholm to move forward with securing the funds to move the Wilson house to their property in Big Lake.
Unfortunately, this project does not appear to be moving forward. In May Staff contacted Mr. Grimm and
requested a date by which the group reasonably thought they would have the home offof the property. Staff
has received no further correspondence since then, There were logistical issues with the sign bridge on
10/169 in Elk River and that may have been an iiLSUrmountable obstacle. Staff has sent several emails and
left several voicemail messages to let the applicant know that they had until June 21~` to give a status update
or it would go back to the City Council. We have received nothing from the applicant.
There are two other persons/groups interested in acquiring and moving the house. Mr. Jack McCoy from
Circle R Ranch contacted the City about a month after the Scout group and Staff has kept in contact with
him. Mr. McCoy would propose to relocate the house to Circle R Ranch which is located between Little
Falls and Long Prairie. Mr. Tim Jones is also interested in acquiring and moving the structure to his farm in
Aitkin. As of the writing of this case, neither has been inside the structure, but both hope to get inside the
house prior to the Work Session.
Another option for the Council to consider is a practice bum by the Fire Department.
Action Statement:
Based on Councfl's discussion.
Reviewed by: ,
City Adminishator
Attachments:
None
CCWS: 07.13.10
