CASE #
REVIEW RELOCATION AND CONSIDER OPTIONS FOR REFURBISHMENT OF
HIGHWAY 10 MARQUIS SIGN
By: Darren Lazan, Development Manager
Background:
Currently, the only site identification signage on the HRA property is the sign at Sunwood and
Ramsey that has seen it's better days.
As part of the Branding effort, as well as to provide adequate contact information to potential
buyers and residents, we would like to construct a number of informational signs and entry
monuments on the project site. These would:
^ Dress up the corners of the property
^ Provide relevant sale or leasing contact information
^ Identify the entry points to the project
^ Support the brand identity and promote the project
^ Welcome new businesses/residential projects
At a previous meeting example sign configurations, illustrations, rough cost estimates for
potential sign installations, and an area plan with proposed locations were provided for your
consideration.
While completing a more comprehensive package based on your feedback, an opportunity to
acquire an existing pylon sign from another construction site has been presented to the team.
This site in Vadnais Heights has a 12'x30' steel pylon sign structure with a 10'x20' backlight
cabinet for illuminated panel signage. The structure is in relatively good shape and appears to be
structurally sound. The estimated value of the sign is approximately $10,000 - 20,000.
The cost to move the sign to the public works yard is currently estimated at $3000-4000. We are
currently preparing a proposed design (sketch attached) to rehab and redress the sign as well as
install the sign adjacent to Highway 10 near the Municipal Center. Estimates for the rehab effort
will be provided at a future HRA meeting for approval.
Development Team Recommendation:
Because this is a time sensitive item, we have sought feedback form a couple members and
directed a contractor to coordinate the removal and transport of this sign to the public works
garage. The development team asks that the HRA approve this expenditure and direct the team to
prepare rehab and installation options and budgets for consideration at a future meeting.
HRA Action:
Approve the costs to transport the existing pylon sign to the public works yard, and direct the
development team to prepare options and budgets for the rehabilitation and installation of the
sign on the project site.
