POLICY BOARD BUSINESS <br />Case.#1: Storm Water Management Education and Outreach <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson presented the staff report. <br />Chairperson Max stated that he was looking at the newly designed website and thought it looked <br />really good and liked the fact that there now was a search function available. In reviewing the <br />new website, he saw the information concerning sealcoating and its associated environmental <br />concerns. He stated that he thinks this. should be addressed somehow as part of this objective. <br />Board Member Freeburg inquired if there was any kind of budget to undertake certain projects. <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that there may be a very limited budget to assist <br />with a small demonstration project possibly. <br />Board Member Hassett inquired about finding an Eagle Scout that may be willing to take on <br />much of a project. <br />Chairperson Max suggested that one option would be to coordinate a tour of existing storm water <br />management options such as rain gardens, pervious pavements etc. <br />Board Member Bentz asked whether there was any interest in mitigation. <br />Board Member Hassett asked if the city was implementing any interesting storm water <br />management strategies at the Municipal Center. <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that he was not aware of any innovative storm water <br />management measures that were implemented at the Municipal Center. <br />Board Member Enstrom stated that the only thing that will truly make a difference in recharging <br />the aquifer would be constructing a sewage treatment plant to treat the waste water here rather <br />than piping it to St. Paul as it is currently done. He stated that he thinks the Board should be <br />making this recommendation to City Council so that they are aware of it. <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson stated that it was his understanding that the Board <br />included this topic on their work plan to identify strategies and tools that were available to <br />homeowners and businesses and than promote and educate the public about them. <br />A brief discussion ensued about the cost of a treatment plant and who would be responsible for <br />that cost. <br />Board Member Hassett asked what the City could possibly contribute should a collection of <br />neighbors be interested in installing rain gardens along the road in front of their homes. <br />Environmental Policy Board /June 7, 2010 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />
