CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Topic Report: Rates for Security at Game
Fair
By: Jim Way, Chief of Police
Background:
On June 25, 2010, staff met with Chuck Delaney to review the Game Fair activities and
the City of Ramsey involvement. One area of concern raised by Delaney was the City of
Ramsey Rates and Fees amount that is charged for the police officers that work at the
event.
Because of calls for service and any issues caused by the event, two officers are assigned
to work the fair each day. The Game Fair is billed 2.75 times the officers hourly rate of
pay based on the City's Rate and Fees schedule. The bill for 2009 was $9130.03 for 108
hours worked. A squad car and a four wheeler are also at the location with no additional
charge added for them.
The 2.75 multiplier is used for other events of this type in the City. Examples of this
were the Diamonds concerts or celebrations in previous years and the Penalty Box events.
Events where we have not used the 2.75 rate have been the St. Katherine Party in the
Park and the Lord of Life Harvest Festival. Both of these events were run by non - profits
and Council directed staff to charge a flat rate for security.
Action Statement:
Staff recommends maintaining the 2.75 rate based on our Rates and Fees Schedule
Reviewed by:
Police Chief
City Administrator:
CCWS: 07/27/10
