<br />CASE #1 <br /> <br />CONSIDER PAVING BITUMINOUS TRAIL ALONG ALPINE DRIVE <br />By: Steven Jankowski, Assistant City Engineer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Staff has been directed to prepare an estimate to consider the construction a ten foot wide <br />bituminous trail in conjunction with the mill and overlay project scheduled for later this fall <br />along Alpine Drive, between Highway 10 and Puma Street. In addition to the segment <br />coinciding with the overlay project, staff is also presenting additional trail segments which might <br />also be considered to increase connectivity of the City trail system, These streets currently have <br />wide paved shoulders which make travel reasonably safe to destinations farther east and north <br />along both of these streets. <br /> <br />Attached to this case is a figure which illustrates both the existing and proposed trail sections for <br />consideration. Proposed Segment A would extend from Highway 10 to a point 900 feet <br />southeast of Andrie Street where it would connect with an existing trail that extends eastward <br />and northward around Lake Itasca. This segment would also require a concrete railroad crossing <br />at the tracks. <br /> <br />Proposed Segment B would connect to a point on the existing trail system which parallels Alpine <br />Drive along the northern right of way. The City owns the short north/south segment needed to <br />make the connection between the existing trail around Lake Itasca and Alpine Drive. This <br />segment would continue eastward to Armstrong Blvd where it would connect to an existing trail <br />east of Armstrong Boulevard to Variolite Street. <br /> <br />Proposed Segment C would extend southward from Alpine Drive, r,long Armstrong Boulevard, <br />to Bunker Lake Boulevard.
