Open space shall be provided for public use and protection of <br />unique natural and scenic resources. To the greatest extent possible, opportunities to view <br />or access the riverfront shall be provided. <br />K. Urban Open Space District — This districteg nerally abuts river corridor parks and open <br />space where protection or enhancement of key resources calls for high standards. <br />Structure heights will be lower than in other districts and vegetative screening will be <br />required in riparian and key resource areas, more restrictive stormwater management, <br />erosion control, or vegetative buffers may be required. Intent - The lower density and <br />height of these areas shall be preserved. The lands and waters within this district shall be <br />managed to conserve, protect and enhance the existing and potential recreational, scenic, <br />natural and historic resources and uses within this district for the use and enjoyment of <br />the surrounding region. High management standards to protect or enhance the key <br />resources and features listed in I I6G.15. Open space shall be provided for public use and <br />protection of unique natural and scenic resources. To the greatest extent possible, <br />opportunities to view or access the riverfront shall be provided. Urban Open Space <br />District should be retained or combined with C. <br />L. Historic preservation district — This district includes cultural and historic sites and <br />structures and view sheds. Intent - The lands and waters in this district shall be managed <br />to protect or enhance cultural and historic sites, structures and functions with the highest <br />management standards to protect or enhance the key resources and features listed in <br />116G.15. This District would function best as an overlay district. The Metropolitan <br />Council February 1975 report pies 9 and 10 list some of the sites that should be <br />considered. <br />Transportation shall be an allowed use in all critical area districts. <br />
