I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I

CASE #

REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff

Background:

The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 and discussed the following six
cases:

Case A:

Tiger Street Speed Reduction Request

Backgronnd:

A number of tiger Street residents were present wanting to discuss a proposal to lower the speed
limit from 55 mph to 30 mph. This case was intended to be on the May Public Works agenda,
but was not included because of limited time. There was also a resident present who indicated
his opposition to a change in the speed limit.

The Public Works Committee directed that a case be prepared for the June 17, 2003 Public
Works Committee, and that all properties within 350 feet of Tiger Street be notified.

Action:

Motion to ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.

Case # 1

Consider Sewer and water Trunk Charges Associated with Alpine Acres
Subdivision

Background:

City Engineer Jankowski explained to the Committee the City has had a policy of collecting
sewer and water trunk charges since the time that utilities were installed' in the mid 1980's. The
expenditures of trunk funds are subject to significantly exceed the revenues for this development,
and in addition, there was a special trunk agreement on this parcel of land from a previous
proposed development. The details of the trunk element costs were discussed.

The Committee recommended that (1) The City pay for the construction cost of extending the
sanitary sewer north to Alpine Drive ($150,000) (2) That the city pay for the difference between
the previous trunk estimate and the current trunk estimate ($817,780 - $657,789 = $159,991) (3)
That the Developer will be reimbursed any trunk charges collected by the city for any
development within the "triangle" bounded by CR 57, CSAH 5, and Alpine Drive that occurs
through January 1, 2010.

Council Action:

Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.

15

-333-
