• CASE #~
INPUT ON PARK RE-NAMING FOR'MEANDERING COMMONS'
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor
Background:
The purpose of this case is to consider a name for the park space in Town Center
that earlier went by the moniker of 'swoosh park' to formally be entitled East
Meandering Commons - to more recently just Meandering Commons. Attached is a
location map of the space being discussed by this case.
Observations:
As part of the visioning and rebranding of the Town Center, renaming the above
mentioned park has been proposed as "The Drazv."The word draw itself has many
connotations and usages, the following three of which appear to compliment the
park in some way (the last of which is a physical, geographic term):
To attract customers, an audience, etc.: Our nezu amphitheatre drew residents
from throughout the community - many of which were not previously regular park
• patrons; the venue is a great draw.
• To derive or use, as from a source: to draw inspiration from the outdoor
performance of Shakespeare.
• A small, natural drainage way with a shallow bed, (or a coulee, ravine).
At June's joint meeting with City Council; the Commission was encouraged to
discuss the proposed name and provide a recommendation on "The Draw," or
another suitable park name.
Commission Action:
Recommend the newly created park space in Town Center be named
Reviewed by:
•
