PER, CASE# y. o z <br />CONSIDER A RESOLUTION ELIMINATING THE <br />ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER POSITION <br />By: Colleen Lasher, Interim Human Resources Representative <br />Background <br />The City's Engineering Division currently has an Assistant City Engineer position to <br />assist the City Engineer in preparation of public improvement projects by performing a <br />wide variety of engineering related office and field work. Unfortunately, after an . <br />extensive analysis of the 2011 budget, it has been determined that it is necessary to <br />eliminate the position and lay off the Assistant City Engineer, Mr. Steve Jankowski, due <br />to budget constraints. <br />Reducing staffing levels by with this position adds $100,449 back into the budget. If the <br />recommended action is approved by the City Council, notice will be given to Mr. <br />Jankowski indicating December 17, 2010 as his last day of employment with the City. <br />Severance benefits will be paid per the Personnel Policy. <br />Recommendation <br />Eliminate the Assistant City Engineer position and lay off the Assistant City Engineer, <br />Mr. Steve Jankowski, effective December 17, 2010. <br />Funding Source <br />Applicable severance payments will be paid from the Public Works Department's <br />Liability Fund and any unemployment benefits will be paid from the Insurance Fund. <br />Personnel Committee Action <br />Motion to recommend that the City Council adopt resolution #10- 10 -XXX to eliminate <br />the Assistant City Engineer position and to layoff Mr. Steve Jankowkki, effective <br />December 17, 2010. <br />City Council Action <br />Confirms the recommendation of the Personnel Committee to eliminate the Assistant <br />City Engineer position and .
