-12- <br /> <br />would be contingent upon satisfactory results of the criminal backgound checks, driving record <br />checl<s, and required physical examinations and drug screens. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by Councilmember Kurak, to recommend that the City <br />Council authorize the appointments of Timothy Bergerson, John Bromen, Chad Fossum, Daniel <br />Johnson, Matthew Kolmer, Dustin Lemke, Roger Peterson, David Rollins, and Brian Wettertind, <br />to the positions of paid on-call fire fighters on the schedule proposed by staff and contingent <br />upon satisfactory results from the criminal background checks, driving record checks, and <br />required physical examinations and drug screens. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Councilmember Anderson inquired if there were any female applicants. <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied that the City currently has three female <br />firefighters and three females attended the information session, but not applied. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting 'Yes: Mayor Gamec, and Councilmembers Kurak, Anderson, <br />Hendriksen, and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #2: Authorize Hiring of Engineering Technician IV <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that as part of the 2001 budget, Council authorized an <br />Engineering Technician IV position. The position was posted internally, there were no internal <br />applicants. The position was advertised externally and five applications were received. The <br />applications were reviewed and three candidates were interviewed by a panel consisting of the <br />Public Works Director, Principal City Engineer, City Engineer, and Assistant City <br />Administrator. Based on the panel's recommendation, staff recommended hiring Michael <br />McDowall for the position of Engineering Technician IV at a starting wage of $21.73/hour plus <br />benefits and will accrue two weeks vacation per year. The starting wage represents the 2001 rate, <br />pending union contract settlement. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak inquired if the City was in the process of replacing a Public Works <br />maintenance worker. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works/Fire ChiefKapler replied yes. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired as to what type of duties the Engineering Technician IV <br />will have. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler explained that the position will be responsible for <br />most of external outside inspection of projects. During the non-construction season the person <br />would be working on construction builds etc. He noted that currently the City is paying tbr the <br />services on a contract basis. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Kurak, seconded by Mayor Gamec, to recommend that the City <br />Council authorize hiring Michael McDowell for the position of full-time Engineering Tech IV at <br /> <br />Personnel Committee/April 23, 2002 <br /> Page 2 of 5 <br /> <br /> <br />
