PERS #: `'Y . Q' <br />CONSIDER A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE HIRE OF AN ACCOUNTANT I <br />By: Colleen Lusher, Human Resources Representative <br />Background <br />On August 24, 2010 the City Council adopted a resolution authorizing staff to restructure the <br />Finance Department. This restructure included: 1) leaving the Assistant Finance Officer position <br />vacant, 2) promoting the current Accountant I to Senior Accountant and 3) authorizing staff to <br />begin a recruitment process to fill the Accountant I position. A recruitment process was <br />conducted and the City received 96 applications, of which 7 were interviewed. The interview <br />panel was made up of the Finance Director, the Senior Accountant, and the Human Resources <br />Representative. <br />Staff Recommendation <br />At this time, staff is recommending that the City Council authorize the hire of Ms. Cindy Nelson <br />for the Accountant I position. All pre-employment checks have been completed satisfactorily. <br />With City Council approval, Ms. Nelson's start date will be on or near November 29, 2010 and her <br />hourly wage will be $20.78 which is step 1 of the wage scale. Ms. Nelson will be subject to a six- <br />month probationary period and all other personnel policies will apply normally. <br />Funding Source <br />The Accountant I position is included in the General Fund (700/6) and Enterprise (30%) Budgets. <br />For calendar year 2011, the resignation of the Assistant Finance Officer, the promotion of the <br />current Accountant I to Senior Accountant and the recruitment of a new Accountant I, will result <br />in an approximate net cost savings of $30,000 for personnel in the Finance Department. <br />Personnel Committee Action <br />Motion to recommend that the City Council adopt resolution # 10 -11 -XXX to hire Ms. Cindy <br />Nelson for the Accountant I position with a start date on or near November 29, 2010 at a step I <br />of the wage scale which is $20.78 per hour. <br />City Council Action <br />Confirms the recommendation <br />Nelson for the Accountant I pe <br />of the wage scale vyhioys$20 <br />Reviewed By <br />PERS: 10-26-10 <br />noel Committee to authorize the hire of Ms. Cindy <br />with a date on or near November 29, 2010 at a step 1 <br />r hour. <br />Administrator <br />
