I I I I I I i I I I I I FC CASE # AUTHORIZE AN AERIAL LADDER TRUCK SPECIFICATIONS AND SOLICIT BIDS By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief Background: The 2002 budget contains funding for the purchase of an Aerial Ladder Truck. The Fire Department created a truck committee months ago and has spent a great deal of time researching other cities ladder tracks and also creating the specifications of a vehicle that will meet the needs of Ramsey both today and into the future. The specifications for the truck are attached. The committee used a format similar to that used by the City of Coon Rapids. With this format the specs are considerably less detailed because of many references made to OSHA and NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) standards. The prospective bidders must comply to the latest revision of all these standards. The committee feels this specification format will provide the ability for a larger number of vendors to participate in the bidding process. The specs can be summarized by the following: · 100' Aerial Platform Apparatus 1500 GPM pump and aerial waterway · Single axle in front and tandem axles in back · Diesel Engine with minimum 470 bhp · Ability to "Short-Jack" in confined areas · Crew cab to hold a total of 6 FF's · 8K Hydraulic Generator · Includes all carried hose, nozzles and tools Funding: Funding for this apparatus will utilize the previous transfer of monies from the capital equipment replacement fund. Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends to Finance Committee to motion Council to accept the specifications for a 100' aerial_ ladder track and grant permission to acquire bids. Committee Action: Recommend to City Council to accept/reject the specifications and to allow soliciting of bids. Council Action: Motion to accept/reject Committees recommendation.
