This system consists of priority street lights and <br />subdivision street lights. Priority street lights are deemed to benefit the entire traveling <br />public and are financed through the general fund. Subdivision street lights represent a <br />higher level of lighting and provides an increased measure of neighborhood safety in <br />terms of pedestrian safety and security. These lights are financed through a quarterly <br />user fee to residents within the lighted subdivisions. Attached is the current City street <br />lighting policy. <br /> <br />The street lighting system was initiated in 1991 with the sewered subdivisions north of <br />CR 116 and west of CSAH 5. However a few priority lights predate that development <br />and were a part of either demOnstration lighting or a City MSA street project. <br /> <br />The City has been adding priority lights on an annual basis at unlit priority intersections. <br />Currently and over the past several years the City has budgeted $25,000 annually which <br />purchases twelve to fifteen lights. <br /> <br />Staff will have available a map of the street lighting system for review at the meeting. <br /> <br />Action: <br /> <br />No Action Required <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br /> <br />Director of Public Works <br />Principal City Engineer <br />Finance Officer <br /> <br />PW: 04/16/02 <br /> <br />-187- <br /> <br /> <br />
