-250- Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION # RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPOINTMENT OF POLICE CHIEF WHEREAS, City Council accepted the resignation of Police Chief David Gustafson on October 22nd, 2002 on November 4th, 2002; and WHEREAS, a vacancy was thereby created in the Police Department and Council authorized the appointment of Interim Police Chief, James F. Way, on November 5th 2002; and WHEREAS, an internal posting for the position of Police Chief was properly displayed - soliciting l~tters of interest; and WHEREAS, one letter of interest was received from Sergeant James Way; and WHEREAS, Mr. James F. Way was interviewed by the Personnel Committee and was recommended tO the City Council to be appointed to the full-time Police Chief position. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1) That the City Council for the City of Ramsey confirms the recommendation of the Personnel Committee to appoint James F. Way t° the Police Chief position effective November 13th, 2002. 2) That Mr. Way will be compensated at an annual rate of $67,289/year and be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Mr. Way has already undergone background and reference checks. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by CoUncil member , and Upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: and the following voted against the same: and the following abstained: and the following were absent: Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adOpted by the Ramsey City Council this the 12th day of November 2002.
