CASE #

REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff

Background:

The Public Works Committee met on October 15, 2002 and discussed the following five cases:

Case # 1

Consider Trail Extension along T.H. #47 from the southern boundary
of Apple Ridge to the north boundary of River Pines 5th Addition

Background:

As a condition of the approval of River Pines 5th Addition, that developer was requested to install
a trail from the southern boundary of Apple Ridge to the northern boundary of the subdivision,
along the west side of T.H. #47. Three options were presented to accomplish this task. After
seeing the options and hearing testimony from the abutting residents, it was the consensus of the
Committee to consider subdividing the existing Outlot, transferring the land to the abutting
property owners, requiring the residents to construct a fence on the top of the existing berm after
the trail is constructed, and retain easements for drainage, utility and street and trail purposes on
the transferred land.

Staff was directed to investigate the costs for subdividing the land, take the steps necessary to
facilitate the outlot land transfer from the current owner to the City, and bring the item back to the
City Council at a future date.

Council Action:
None

Case #2

Request by residents to install stop signs at 156t~ Lane NW/Yakima
Street NW

Background:

It was brought to our attention by several residents of the Reilley Estates subdivision that a sight
restricted intersection exists on 156th Lane NW and Yakima Street NW. After performing a
volume analysis and visiting the site, Staff recommended that stop signs be placed on the two
Yakima Street NW legs and some pruning of vegetation occur to improve the operational
characteristics of the intersection.

There was a motion to recommend to the City Council to install stop signs on the two Yakima
Street NW legs of the intersection of 156' Lane NW/Yakima Street NW.

Council Action:

Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.

-417-
