TOBACCO VIOLATION AND CIVIL FINE NOTIFICATION <br />Ramsey Police Department <br /> Sgt. Way <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Ramsey Police Department performed tobacco compliance checks at all <br />City of Ramsey businesses that sell tobacco products on 9-12-02. Six <br />businesses failed the test by selling tobacco to minors in violation of Ramsey <br />City Ordinance 7.93 (see attachment). <br /> <br />The police department is requesting authorization to send failure notices and <br />civil fine and suspension notifications to the businesses that failed <br />compliance checks. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the police department notify the following licensees <br />in writing, that they failed a compliance check, are being assessed a civil <br />fine and face suspension if warranted as stated in City Code 7.93.13. Staff <br />also recommends the suspension of Tom Thumbs license based on previous <br />violations (see attachments). <br />Failure list: Links at Northfork, Tom Thumb, T&T Liquors, Oasis Market, <br />Casey's and Holiday. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to allow the Ramsey Police Department to send failure notices to <br />business that failed tobacco compliance checks on 9-12-02.
