-168- <br /> <br />Public Works Supervisor Reimer replied that that would be acceptable. <br /> <br />Mr. Lepper noted that they would be doing that anyway. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he would be in favor of excluding the median. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated that they naed to handle the issue of private streets very <br />seriously because it becomes precedent. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec replied that allowing private drives saves the City a lot of maintenance. He does <br />think that that the major thoroughfare through the development should be a City street with the <br />driveways to the units being private. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that the Council does need to develop a policy regarding private <br />streets so that they have proper guidelines with all of the townhome developments coming into <br />the City. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated that one question he would have is would parking be allowed <br />along private streets. <br /> <br />Mr. Lepper replied no. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired as to how many units will be along each street. <br /> <br />Mr. Lepper replied that the maximum number of units would be six on. each side of the road. <br />There will be two parking spaces on each driveway and three extra parking spaces on the end of <br />each road. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated that a decision that the Cotmcil needs to make is what are <br />they going to require for parking. Are they going to say that three extra stalls is adequate for 12 <br />units. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson inquired if the extra parking stalls will be plowed in the winter. <br /> <br />Mr. Lepper replied yes. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak noted that very rarely are the extra parking spaces used in the Sunfish <br />Ponds development. <br /> <br />Community Development Assistant Wald reviewed the off street parking required by City Code <br />and noted that the development exceeds those requirements. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson noted that she would prefer that the noise barrier be required as part of <br />the development. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski noted that the City received a letter from MnDOT regarding the <br />soundwall, which indicated that the City shall take reasonable measures to reduce the sound <br /> <br />City Council/December 18, 2001 <br /> Page 13 of 27 <br /> <br /> <br />
