These additional hours were intended to serve the Crime Prevention Specialist in needed
clerical and administrative support. Since the approval of the budget, staff has learned that there
is not an interest amongst the current Police Department clerical staff to pick up those additional
five hours of clerical time. First, the intern
will provide needed clerical and administrative support to the Crime Prevention Specialist. The
office support would help the Crime Prevention Specialist in organizing and planning for
pro[rams such as National Night Out, CompuKid, Crime Watch Program and safety seminars.
Second, the intern would work closely with the Crime Prevention Specialist and Corporal on
planning for National Night Out and help keep the momentum going for that important

Personnel Committee/January 22, 2002

-13-
