The City Council Will accept and iake -136- Dear Prope~y Owner: On May 10, 2001 a petition was delivered to City Hall opposing the bituminous overlay of the Pdverwood Hills subdivision street which was proposed for this summer and was to have 50% of the cost specially assessed to the benefited properties. The petition was signed by 35 of 45 benefited property owners within the subdivision. At its May 22, 2001 Ciu Council meeting the Council received, but did not accept the petition. The reason for not accepting the petition was to ensure that the residents of Riverwood are aware of City policy concerning defeated maintenance projects. Prior to 199! the City assessed 100% of the cost of preventative street maintenance,, both seal coatings and overlays. maintenance project cost. petition would be ineligible for receiving the City's 50% contributions if the scope of a subsequent project was greater than that of the rejected maintenance project. In the instance of Rjverwood Hills, this means that if a street reconstruction is required in the future, that reconstruction will not receive City participation of 50 percent of the project cost. Since a street reconstruction is approximately three times the cost of the proposed overlay, P, Jverwood Hills residents might be facing a cost six times as rig-22 than the work scheduled for this summer. Pursuant to the City. Charter si~atures on the petition can be withdrawn in writing, if received prior to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2001 or in person at the Council meeting held at 7:00 p.m. at Fire Station #2 at 15050 Armstrong Boulevard N.W. appropriate action on the petition at the June 12, 2001 Council meeting.
