I <br /> <br /> I <br /> I <br /> ! <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br />II <br /> I <br /> I <br /> <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> <br />REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE <br />By: Steve'Jankowski, City Engineer & <br /> Brian Olson, City Engineer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, August 21, 2001, and discussed the following <br />five cases: <br /> <br />Case #1: Discussion to Consider Extension of Sound Wall Along Trunk Highway #47 <br /> <br />Staff had approached MnDOT on whether Federal Funds would be available to participate in the <br />extension of a screening wall along the east side of T.H. #47 between Sunwood Drive and <br />Barium Street as had been petitioned by several local residents. Staff reported that MnDOT had <br />responded declining Federal Funding participation. The Committee recommended that up to <br />$6,000 be expended for restoring landscape screening for the residences in this area. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />A proposal from Wirtz Nursery for landscape restoration consistent with the direction of the <br />Committee is anticipated to be attached to this case, or will be available by the time of the <br />Council meeting. A motion for action on that proposal will be requested. <br /> <br />Case #2: Update on Alpine Drive Proposal/Project #99-51 <br /> <br />There are several items necessary to complete this project that will require changes on additions <br />to the item in the original contract documents. This installation of one of the items, safety <br />fencing along the top of the retaining walls, was determined by the Committee to be essential to <br />the safety of the public. The Committee recommended that the roadway remain closed until the <br />railing is in place. The Committee directed that a change order .be prepared to effect the <br />necessary changes to complete the project. The Council also requested City Attorney input on <br />the responsibility of the consultant regarding underestimated and overlooked items. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Attached is a change order effecting the necessary changes to complete the project. Councik <br />should make a motion authorizing the City to enter into this change order. <br /> <br />Case #3: Consider Authorizing Construction of a Mezzanine in Water Tower No. 2 - A <br />Change Order to projec.t #99-64 <br /> <br />Verizon Inc. has approached the City to locate a communication antenna on Water Tower No. 2. <br />The City has received a proposal for the construction on a mezzanine above the base inside the <br />tower column. Installation of the mezzanine could be accomplished through a change order to <br />contract for the construction of the tower.
