Quantity Increase:

Background: Upon review of our project files and in discussing the additional quantities
and costs with office staff who calculated the modular block wail, the following history
has been extrapolated to the best of everybody's knowledge. Originally the modular
block wall was separated for bid by structural wall and the turtle wall and then combined
into one quantity by State-Aid direction. However, the deficiency bettween the modular
block quantity included in the Bid Form and in the quantity, required by the approved
plans most likely occurred because the buried portion of the modular bloCk wall was not
included in the hid calculations. The project specifications state that below and above
ground modular block wall will be included for payment. In general, this means that at
the Turtle Wall approximately one (1) foot of bury depth was not included in the bid
calculations along with deeper block buried at higher wall locations, which were
included. A rough calculation indicat~-~that there is approximatel, y 3,500 feet of total
modular wall. A majority of the modular block overrun from the Bid Form quantity
would be attributed to not including the bury depth along the len~h of the Wall in the Bid
Form. The Bid Form quantity for project modular block walls is 6,845 sf versus the
actual installed quantity of 11,225 sf.

G;\Meadota Heights Production\Cliems\Rmn. ey\99-__ -s\Cor~espoadence\200lklankowski Ltr 8-7-01 .doc

Offices: Hibbing · Minnetonka · St. Paul .
