Case 8 <br /> <br />Coum;ilmember <br /> <br />moved for the adoption of the following resolution: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #01-09- <br /> <br />A IUgSOLUTION CALLING FOR A SPECIAL CITY-WIDE ELECTION FOR THE <br />PURPOSE OF VOTING ON CERTAIN CITY CHARTER AMENDMENTS PROPOSED BY <br />THE CHARTER COMMISSION AND ESTABLISHING THE SPECIFIC BALLOT <br />QUESTIONS TO BE VOTED UPON. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Charter Commission, by motion dated August 9, 2001, has forwarded to <br />the City Council a recommended Charter Amendment providing for the establishment of a Ward <br />System for the election of four of the City Councilmembers, a copy of which Amendment is attached <br />hereto as EXHIBIT A; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Charter Commission, by motion dated August 9, 200t, has forwarded to <br />the City Council a recommended Charter Amendment providing for the establishment of a Primary <br />Election System, a copy of which Amendment is attached hereto as EXHIBIT B; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Charter Commission, by motion dated September 6, 2001, has forwarded <br />to the City Council a recommended Charter Amendment providing that the City's Comprehensive Plan <br />may be adopted and amended by the City Council by a majority vote of all its members a Copy of <br />which Amendment is attached hereto as EXHIBIT C; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Charter Commission, by motion dated September 6, 2001, has forwarded <br />to the City Council a recommended Charter Amendment providing that the required number of <br />signatures for initiative and referendum petitions shall be at least twenty percent of the registered <br />voters at the time of the last city-wide election a copy of which Amendment is attached hereto as <br />EXHIBIT D; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Charter Commission, by motion dated September 6, 2001, has forwarded <br />to the City Council a recommended Charter Amendment providing that no initiative, referendum or <br />recall ballot question shall be approved unless at least twenty-five percent of the registered voters at <br />the last city-wide election vote on the ballot question and a majority of the persons voting, vote in <br />favor of the ballot question a copy of which Amendment is attached hereto as EXH133IT E; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council, ' pursuant to State Statute, is obligated to schedule the election <br />on the recommended amendments within 90 days of receipt of the proposed amendments; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS;;. aquestmno f'.State la~ :complmnce :has,arisen With :reg~fit to~he;te~3!~ ~..~. ~ and the <br />surname of 6a¢1~ Carididate?'; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council, pursuant to State Statute, is obligated to establish the ballot <br />question. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION # 01-09- <br /> Page 1 <br /> <br /> <br />
