CASE # <br /> <br />REPORT FROM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY <br />MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 17, 2001 <br /> By: James E. Norman, City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Economic Development Authority (EDA) met on Monday, September 17, 2001, and <br />discussed the following cases: <br /> <br />Case gl: Star Exhibits Development /~// <br /> <br />Staff presented a report of Star Exhibits and Environments of Brooklyn Center and their <br />proposed move to Ramsey's Sunfish Business Park, formerly Waste Management property. Star <br />Exhibits and Environments is a trade show exhibits manufacturing and insulation company that <br />currently employs approximately 80 employees and would operate with over 100 in their new <br />facility. The company plans to construct a 185,000 square foot facility that could be expanded in <br />the future. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />No action is necessary. <br />Case #2: Chicago Mixed-Use Tour/Y// <br /> <br />On August 23, 2001, the City of Ramsey took 42 people to Chicago in order to tour mixed-use <br />developments located near commuter rail stations. The group visited four mm~icipalities in the <br />Chicago area; Arlington Heights, Deerfield, Highland Park, and Lincolnshire. In each <br />community, the group met with city staff and conducted a walking tour of the mixed-use <br />developments. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />No action is necessary. <br /> <br />Case #3: <br /> <br />Sunfish Commons Revolving Loan Application <br /> <br />During the EDA meeting of August 20, 2001, the EDA recommended that funds be transferred <br />to the Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund in order to allow an application be made by <br />Sunfish Commons Partnership. Sunfish Commons Partnership had not filled out the application <br />form and the matter was tabled until the October meeting. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />No action is necessary at this time. <br /> <br />Case #4: Altron North Property ~ <br />On May 15, 2001, the City Council directed staff to contact the property owner of Altron in <br />order to determine the availability of the vacant parcel north of Altron to Sunwood Drive. Staff <br />has been in contact with the owner of the vacant property (Allen C. Phillips), and had been in the <br /> <br /> <br />
