Case #1: Recommend Signage Graphic for The Draw
Park Supervisor Mark Riverblood presented a sample image of the signage to the Commission
for input.
Chairperson Shryock one comment is in discussion with the City Council they wanted the title to
be The Draw and the graphic provided shows it as The Draw Park and it doesn't have a good
flow, when it comes time to doing a permanent sign the graphic should be modified to The Draw
and have park and amphitheater in smaller letters.
Case #2 2011 — 2015 Parks Five - Year Capital Improvement Plan
Parks Supervisor Mark Riverblood reviewed the staff report and highlighted the 2011 projects.
Commissioner Olsen asked where are we at with the building project at Elmcrest Park her
understanding is we have been waiting for the soccer program to do their piece.
Vice Chair Backous stated there are different funding opportunities and they have been setting
aside money from tournaments in the past. They also had some pretty serious discussions from
members that would provide some of the funding and they would provide maintenance and
upkeep of the building. It is important to put out there the building would provide additional
revenue to the soccer program but also would bring people into the City and benefits the
businesses in the area.
Chairperson Shryock asked considering the leg work involved in this project, is 2011 a
reasonable goal and thinks this is something we should keep on top of the docket.
Commissioner Bennett asked if it would be more feasible if the building and the playground
were separate projects in order to help move this along, he would be in support of that in terms of
dollars.
Chairperson Shryock thinks there is merit to that, the residents would appreciate having that
playground system in and it would be better off having those two split.
Vice Chair Backous, wants it understood that these funds are already there and the trust fund
provided by developers, this isn't something that is going to increase property taxes.
Commissioner Olsen stated the parking at Central Park is critical at Central Park and should be
kept on the top of the list and it is important to make improvements to the parks we already have
and there is definitely a need for parking there.
Chairperson Shryock also said it is also a safety need.
Vice Chair Backous agrees that additional parking at Central Park is the highest priority on the
CIP list for 2011.
Park and Recreation Commission/November 18, 2010
Page 2 of 4
