Recognizing the importance of planning for nature <br />in the face of urban growth, the 1998 MN Legislature established the <br />Metro Greenways program to promote the development of a regional , <br />network of natural areas, parks, wildlife habitat and other open spaces - <br />connected by greenways. In support of this effort, grants may be used for / <br />activities such as: <br />* Baseline comprehensive natural resource inventories. <br />* Development of a comprehensive greenway and natural area plan that <br />protects, connects or restores regionally and/or locally valued natural <br />habitat. <br />* Additional survey or planning work to complete or revise existing <br />natural resource plans. <br />* Community workshops to identify and prioritize locally and regionally <br />important natural resources identified by inventories; <br />* Development of management plans for high quality natural areas <br />important to the regional network. <br /> For more information and to apply see the web site above or call Sharon <br />Pfeifer, MN Dept. of Natural Resources, at 651/772-7982. <br /> <br />ANNUAL TRANSPORTATION & COMMUNITY & SYSTEM <br />PRESERVATION (TCSP) GRANTS <br />* Proposals due 1/31/01. <br />* · $25 million expected to be available. <br />* Eligible applicants include state and local governments, <br />metropolitan planning organizations, tribal governments, and other local <br />and regional public agencies. <br />* Details at http://tc.~p-fhwa.voIpe.dot.~ov/fedre.qO2/index, html <br /> TCSP provides funding for transportation strategies which improve the <br />efficiency of systems, reduce environmental impacts of transportation, <br />reduce the need for costly future public infrastructure investments, <br />ensure efficient access to jobs, services and ceniers of trade, and <br />examine development patterns and identify stratecjies to encourage <br />private sector development patterns which achieve these goals.
