REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS <br /> By: Public Works Staff <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 and discussed the following case: <br /> <br />Case # 1 <br /> <br />164th Storm Sewer (Thorson Drainage Issue) <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The property owners at 5831 156th Lane owned by Carla and Dewey Thorson has requested from <br />the City assistance with correcting the drainage problem that the ditch line from T.H. #47 flows <br />into their backyard. City Engineer Jankowski presented the Committee with three options of <br />addressing this drainage issue. Alternative A: Construction cost associated with piping is <br />estimated to be $31,000. Alternative B: Construction cost for this alternative is estimated to be <br />$44,000. Both alternatives for A and B may have a conflict with the gas line. Alternative C: The <br />Thorson's have considered placing a four-inch tile line across their backyard. The cost of this <br />project undertaken by the Thors6n's is estimated to be $500 with the request of the City <br />participating in this expense. <br /> <br />Motion was made to recommend that the City Council direct staff to obtain an easement on the <br />Thorson property and pay them for the easement so that the Thorson's can proceed With <br />Alternative C. <br /> <br />Action: <br /> <br />Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. <br /> <br />COMMITTEES/STAFF INPUT <br /> <br />1) Sanitary Sewer Comprehensive Plan Update <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson stated that they hope to receive the aerial photos and <br />topographical information in August. Staff is also planning on meeting with the Met Council to <br />discuss future capacity issues. <br /> <br />2) Ramsey Park and Ride <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson noted that the grant was extended for a year and the State <br />is offering more money if the City places the site in a permanent location. <br /> <br />-437- <br /> <br /> <br />
