CONSIDER RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING STAFF TO BEGIN THE
RECRUITMENT PROCESS FOR A PERMIT TECHNICIAN

By: Givonna Reed, Human Resources Manager

Background

As part of the Town Center Fiscal Impact Study, late last year departments were asked to
assess personnel needs over the next 13 years as the City experiences significant growth.
The anticipated growth is already impacting Community Development. Currently,
Administration and Public Works are assisting Community Development with walk-ins,
issuing permits and conducting sewer and water inspections. Planning staff is also
assisting as much as possible by responding to requests for property information.
The addition ora Permit Technician at this time would make the Department more
efficient and responsive, as this position would be responsible for issuing permits and
conducting inspections.

At the July 15, 2003 work session, City Administrator, Jim Norman, discussed personnel
needs with the Council. There was consensus among Council Members that
authorization to begin the recruitment processes for a Permit Technician should be
brought forward for consideration by the Council. At this time, staff'is requesting '
authorization to begin the recruitment processes for a Permit Technician.

Recommendation

Motion to recommend that the City Council authorize staff to begin the recruitment
process for a Permit Technician.

Reviewed by:
City Administrator
Community Development Director
Assistant Community Development Director

PC: 08/12/03

G:gAdministration\HumanResources\Recruitment\CD\Permit Tech 07-03~uth to recruit Permit Tech.doc

-449-
