The North Metro Chamber of Commerce
distributed a political flyer stating that this Council was going to pass new franchise fees. I've
checked with the Mayor, most of the City staff, and with my colleagues sitting here with me and
the Chamber did not research their facts. They didn't ask one question of anyone within this
City's staff before they went and spent a fair amount of their member's money and making
accusations about something they knew nothing about. The North Metro Chamber boasts about
being a business oriented organization. In business, you're forced deliberate, very complex
equations regarding revenues, expenditures and outside stimulace that you may or may not have
control over. The point is, you do your homework before you ever take action on an issue. This
Chamber's lack of research, coupled with their actions of distributing a sensationalized mailer of

City Council~July 22, 2003

-91-
