REPORT~FROM PU-BLIC WORKS By: Public Works Staff CASE # Background: The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 and discussed the following five cases: Case #1 Consider Traffic Control Changes along Riverdale Drive Background: City Engineer explained to the Committee that additional traffic will be generated from the Connection of Pdverdale Drive to Highway 10 at Ramsey Boulevard as the Rivenwick 3~d towrthomes develop. Two figures .were presented illustrating the. existing daily traffic volumes along with the existing traffic control currently in place with the second figure containing what Staff recommends as the eventual traffic control scheme in the area. Three alternatives were presented with alternative one being to keep the intersection of Garnet/Pdverdale uncontrolled.' The second alternative being to post a stop si2x2 on the south leg of Garnet Street. The third alternative presented would be to post an all way s, top (three way) at the intersection until Riverdale becomes the predominate through movement. Staff recommended that all of the existing y/eld controls on Pdverdale (Ebony and Dolomite) be changed to stop controls. Staff also recommended placing a yield sigm on the south leg of Garnet. Motion was made that the yield signs on Ebony and Dolomite be replaced with stop Signs, that a stop sign be placed on the south leg of Garnet/Riverdale intersection and to reconnmend that a two-way stop be placed at the intersection of Feldspar and Riverdale Drive going northbound and westbound. Action: Ratify the reconn'nendation of the Public Works Committee. Case #2: Consider Request by Northfork Homeowners Association for Speed Limit Signs Background: On August 7, 2003, Staff received a letter from the Northfork Homeowners Association requesting three speed limit sigms to be installed within the Northfork subdivision. City Engineer Jankowski explained that City policy is that signs are posted at locations where there is a change in speed limit to lower the limit. It was also noted that sig-nage has minimal effects on dr/ring habits. Staff reconnnended that residents work with the Police Department to identify individual. speeders and also recommended placing the speed trailer at the locations identified in the letter. Motion to recommend to City Council that Staff work with the Northfork Homeowners Association to focus speed enforcement to times and locations identified by the association as problematic, and to place the speed traffic trailer at locations specified in the July. 9, 2003 Association letter. Action: Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. -199-
