Program <br />· Play area and nature interpretive garden at the eastern edge of Alpine Park <br />· Overall layout addresses connections between the play area, the bicycle path and the park <br />· Garden includes play equipmen~ for young children as .well as seating area for children and <br /> adults <br /> <br />· Seating area also provides a place to stop and rest along the adjacent bicycle path <br /> <br />· Garden is meant to inspire appreciation for and understanding of nature and ora human <br /> being's relationship to the surrounding natural environment <br /> <br />· Study materials created by Ramsey Elementary School for the school's Environmental <br /> Learning Area will be referenced to he~p interpret the Garden and for inspiration for themes <br /> and imagery <br /> <br />· Highlighted will be existing stands of oak and evergreens and the prairie and wetland <br /> habitats in this part of Alpine Park <br /> <br />· Added will be trees, stm~bs and perennials that attract butterflies, insects and birds <br /> <br />· Nearby landfill will be a part of the interpretive pro.am; funding will be sought to create a <br /> model to depict or otherwise interpret how the landfill works <br /> <br />· Garden will incorporate public art especially for the garden created to support its <br /> interpretive function <br /> <br />· Emphasis will be placed on using recycled materials and sustainable principles in the <br /> construction of the play area, garden and public art <br /> <br />· Garden will comply with ADA Accessibility Standards <br /> <br />· Timeframe for installation is 2003, but is flexible depending upon funding <br /> <br />· $80,000 is available for design and construction from Park Dedication funds; <br /> additional funds and donations may be sought to augment the project <br /> <br />· Additional criteria: no lighting is currently planned for the park but it may be possible for <br /> this project; seating area must be visible to passersby and police for purposes of public <br /> safety; no drinking fountain or irrigation is planned at this time; temporary toilets will be <br /> located nearby in summer <br /> <br />DRAFT Discover3, Garden Concept Phase, Regina Flanagan, April 22, 2003 I <br /> <br /> <br />
