ALEX.&NDRA HOUSE, INC. <br /> COMMUNITY SERVICES <br /> <br />Alexandra House, Inc. has expanded over the years to meet the growing and changing needs of <br />battered women and families and has evolved from a 24 hour temporary emergency shelter to <br />include a number of advocacy services as well as a volunteer component and community <br />education. <br /> <br />Community services provides outreach based advocacy to Anoka County residents who are <br />experiencing violence in their lives. Advvcates are available to assist individuals on a daily <br />basis, at our offices located at 2150 3~ Aw., Anoka and at the Soutt,,ern Anoka County <br />Neighbori.ood Center and Eastern Anok~ County Human Services sites. <br /> <br /> h~..)wle diversities. <br />The ~-ar~ilies we serve represe~:: all economic, cultm:~l, educational, and <br />The n,~jorky of t~ _c individua'~ we work ,..'ith are women and families with :,~iddle to <br />inco:,nes and arc ~inancially d~pendent on hheir abusive partners. <br /> <br />Our gc al ~z to rec.,zee the incidence of domestic vio!c'~ice in our communities by providing <br />qua~i~ advocacy services to l~attered women and fa~!lies. <br /> <br />The services outlined below include outreach advocacy, violence preventiop, teen adw cacy, <br />com~ "nity education, professional training and volunteer prog:.~mming. <br /> <br />Outretch Advoc.2cv <br /> <br />Out~;'~ch advocacy provides :;ommunity based support services to Anoka Coun~ battered <br />wom.~n and families. Advoc:~tes assist women on a daily basis a.t our conunur~ty office in <br />Anoka and three days a week at the Southern Anoka Neighborhood Services Center and the <br />Eastern Anoka County Human Service Center. <br /> <br />Services provided by outreach staff and volunteers include crisis interventien, civil and <br />crim~al court, housing, economic and healthcare advocacy. In addition, advocates provide <br />information and referrals to various resources, transportation, accompaniment to appointments <br />and support group services. <br /> <br />Crisis intervention services are provided over the phone and in person. These services include <br />providing support, information and safety planning. Civil court advocacy consists of assistance <br />in filing Protection Orders, accompaniment to civil court proceedings and providing <br />information on other related civil matters. Criminal court advocacy includes working with <br />women whose partners have been charged with domestic assault and involves working closely <br />with law enforcement and the court systems. <br /> <br />Housing, economic and healthcare advocacy encompasses helping women by providing <br />information, resource connection and support in accessing services. <br /> <br />Support groups, held in various locations throughout the county, provide the opportunity for <br />women to receive on-going information, and support in living with/he effects of domestic <br />violence in their lives. <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br />I <br />i <br />I: <br /> <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br /> <br />
