January 27, 2000

Mr. Jim Norman
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd.
Ramsey, MN 55303

JAN 2 1 ZOO0
¥

Mr. Norman,

I am submitting this letter in regards to the vacant positions, which currently need to be filled on
the Charter Commission.

Please consider myself a candidate for one of the positions.

I moved to Ramsey over three and a half years ago from Bloomington (as a result of my employer
relocatiug in Anoka.) Prior to my decision to move here I researched a number of the surrounding
communities however felt Ramsey would best suite my family's needs. One deciding factor for
myself was the well-established set of ordinances and codes Ramsey had in place.

Having lived in Bloomington for 41 years I understand the need for ordinances and codes and the
benefit they provide within a growing community. I enjoyed a "Quality Life" in an urban
environment as a result of these rules.

In contrast my vision is not focused only on the urban existence. After now living in Ramsey for
over three years, I have come to understand and respect the "rural life style" preferred by a
number of Ramsey residents.

Ramsey is clearly in a transitional period and the blending of the urban and rural lifestyles is a
fact of life. I typically view things from a realistic point of view and believe that facts should
dictate decisions being made regarding community growth.

Since moving to Ramsey I have kept up on a number of city issues and have gotten involved in
others. I am reasonably familiar with the city code and development strategies, however would
look forward to learning even more about the "nut & bolts" that make the city run.

I feel the Charter Commission is a good starting point for myself. It would allow me to be
involved with my com~nunity and would also aIlow me to contribute ideas 1 feel would benefit
the residents of Ramsey. Also considering the fairly minimal time commitment that would be
required on my part, the position would work well in regards to my family life and my work.

I would like to discuss this opportunity with you so please feel fi'ee to contact me at your
conveniellce.

Barry Childs
6040 151~t Lane N.W
Ramsey, MN 55303
576-5134 (home)
576-6742 (work)
