I
I

I
I

PRO SPORTING GOODS, INC.
· ' 6781 HIGHWAY 10
" RAMSEY, MN 55303
(763) 576-1706

April 6, 2000

Ramsey Planning Commission
15153 Nowthen Blvd N.W.
Ramsey, MN 55303

RE: Ace Solid Waste Conditional Use Permit

To Whom It May Concern:

Thank you for the notification of the upcoming hearing regarding the conditional use permit that has
been applied for by Ace Solid Waste. I have read the notifications and the accompanying literature
and have a number of questions and comments.

I

I

To begin with I want the City of Ramsey to be aware of what a good job I feel they have done in the
past with the ongoing expansion of the industrial area off of Sunfish Lake Blvd. They have adhered to
a plan that encourages new business growth as well as 'keeping the current business owners happy. I
feel that city officials have the business owners' best interest at heart as well as the City of Ramsey.

I do, however, have a question as to the safety of having an environmental site such as a waste transfer
site right in the midst of other businesses. I feel that the exposure to hazardous waste plus other waste
related issues would be too great to in any way benefit the City of Ramsey or the business owners
located in the area where this plant is to be built. I feel that a less populated area would be a better fit
for this company as well as for our city.

As an owner of a retail store, I am also concerned with the increased amount of track traffic that my
customers would be confronted with if this permit were approved. We all must remember the number
of accidents (some fatal) that occurred on the Sunfish Lake Blvd and Hwy I0 intersection when there
were gravel trucks hauling on a regular basis last summer. If this permit is approved those garbage
trucks plus all the semi trailers would be a constant traffic problem to my customers. I feel that this
would negatively '~ffect my business as well as the other retail storeowners' ctirrenfly'doing business in
this area.

I also feel that having a solid waste transfer station situated so close to my store would lower the value
of my property. I think the City of Ramsey should be looking for businesses that would increase or
help keep property values stable. In my opinion, which I am sure is shared by the majority of people,
a waste transfer facility is not considered that type of business. While I acknowledge that this 'type of
business is a necessity, I feel that it can be located in a more suitable remote area.

To sum up, I would like the City of Ramsey to be aware that I am opposed to granting the conditional
use permit to Ace Solid Waste. I am confident that the city officials who originally approved the
expansion plans for this area will remain strong and support the plans that were originally drawn up
and not waiver from them by issuing this permit.

Sincerely, / ~

Matt Kuker I .
Pro Sporting Goods, Inc.

MK:v. jk ~.

137
